STEWARDESS

I’m a stewardess, but I used to be an editor for a magazine, so I always have had my head in the clouds. In addition, I’ve always been attracted by the heights and distances and so I came up with a great idea – I could explore the world as a flight attendant! 🙂

Between California and Chicago I have one stop in Manchester. It doesn’t sound very tempting. Maybe if I had tickets for a football match, but I have never enjoyed football and, besides Manchester United and Manchester Arena, the city doesn’t have much to offer to me. Architecture is a bit like London, or all other English cities, but less cosmopolitan and much less remarkable. Food, as in entire England, it’s not the best. However, there is something tempting that take many of flight attendants out of the hotel – Primark! Irish supermarket with trendy clothes and home stuff for a few peanuts. No one can resist. We arrive to the airport in Manchester early in the morning, but our rooms in the airport hotel are not yet ready, so we get the breakfast for free. Then a couple of hours of sleeping and then train trip to the city center. Through the windows on the train I’m watching the small suburbs we are passing and picturing how the people live there. Every morning they close the door behind them and so all the family secrets and get on a regular route to the city for work. Probably this inspired an author of Girl on the train, I guess. Indeed, great book! I get off at the main station and head to the main Piccadilly square. I walk through the streets with many stylish pubs. Most people in business attire are hanging out on the sidewalk with the cigarette in one hand and a bottle of beer in the other. All in jackets, ties slightly loose. This is such a typical English culture – go for the beer right after work and before getting on the train back home to families or roommates. I’m looking to shopping windows or taking photos or just enjoying the atmosphere. Finally, a very enjoyable trip!
