STEWARDESS

I’m a stewardess, but I used to be an editor for a magazine, so I always have had my head in the clouds. In addition, I’ve always been attracted by the heights and distances and so I came up with a great idea – I could explore the world as a flight attendant! 🙂

After a relaxing vacation in Slovakia with my family, the time has come for some getaway with my boyfriend…

We have like four days ahead us. It’s not a lot, but still we want to escape to some nice and exotic place. We just can not figure out where exactly. My boyfriend looks for places where he could play Black Jack or Roulette and smoke weed. (Please, just not Egypt again!) Like typical Saudi, who lives in a country where every fun is forbidden, I don’t even blame him he longs for some fun vacation. Me again, I just want to explore new places. After we rejected Bali which is far away, Thailand or Europe (coz he as a Saudi citizen needs to apply for visa first), I suggest the Seychelles. Direct only 4-hours long flight from Abu Dhabi, beautiful nature, beaches, sea, even casinos are there. When I google out that there is no problem to get even weed, my boyfriend is hooked. 😀 When I say at home that we end up going “just” to Seychelles, my mum is horrified: “Did you just say “just” to Seychelles?” I didn’t want to sound ungrateful, I’m well aware that the Seychelles are almost unaccessible paradise and dream destination for most of Slovaks, but under the word “just” I meant a destination that is not far from Abu Dhabi. For us flight attendants who are used to flying across the globe, four hours on the airplane will always be “just” four hours. I have to admit that Seychelles have always been associated with places like Maldives or Bora Bora Islands where rich honeymooner go. In contrast to the other two, the Seychelles is also very romantic and exotic paradise-like place but in addition you will find here much more fun, so you are not tied to boring romance for couples…

DAY 1

With my boyfriend who travels from Riyadh, I meet early in the morning at Abu Dhabi Airport. I find him, of course, in the smoking room where he has already found a new friend with whom he drinks a whiskey. Later in the plane right after breakfast he fell asleep. After landing, we find a taxi driver who takes us to our hotel on one of the longest and most famous beaches of Beau Vallon on Mahe Island. The more exotic and romantic are the Praslin and Le Digue islands, but I was forced to choose a place not far from the international airport, as we have only three nights reserved for our holiday. In the taxi we admire the nature behind our windows – wild green hills and the turquoise sea… After checkin-in, however, we are a bit shocked. We paid quite a lot (compared to hotel prices elsewhere in the world), but the room looks quite cheap. At least we have a beautiful view. I find out that in Seychelles the differences between affordable and very expensive are really significant, in price, and especially in quality. You can find also affordable accommodation, but do not expect any luxury. Luxurious is magical nature around us. However, we can’t complain about the location of the hotel, we are right in the middle of the beach, which is, unlike the ones in the Maldives, full of life. Seychelles are not a Muslim country, it used to be French colony, and that fact is reflected in bohemian vivid culture. The beach is really busy here. You can buy here drinks served directly in fresh coconuts or try some other local specialities. In the air you can smell curry and coconut, local surf trainers are hiding in the shades of palm trees and waiting for customers. We just walk along the beach, taste local dishes, drink and chill. After sunset we go visit casino in neighborhood where my boyfriend teaches me to play Black Jack. It seems that I’ve finally understood the game, but we are loosing anyway. The casino is half-empty, probably they don’t have enough money to give. After few games we don’t have much money left, and so I don’t have to worry that my boyfriend will pull me back to the casino again tomorrow. 😀

DAY 2

My boyfriend is not an early bird at all, so morning is over when he finally gets up. I’m not an early bird either, but I don’t want to spend the entire beautiful day in bed, so I rather go for walk around the beach. Although rain season is slowly coming to Seychelles, sky is so far clean with no clouds. Later, I find out raining season means more often rain showers but as all of sudden they comes, they all of sudden go away. When my boyfriend finally wakes up, we start a day with fights. Vacation fights belong to our traditions. I’m unhappy that he sleeps so much and doesn’t want to explore the beauties of the island with me while he is angry that I don’t let him relax, not even on his vacation. After lunch, however, we please each other and fights are over. We relax in the garden hammock, play table tennis, later we even try some water sports like crazy ride on “coconut”. Then it starts rain but after short while sky clears up again so we can enjoy beautiful sunset. Until the late night, we are hanging out on the beach and enjoy the local atmosphere…

DAY 3

Again we gate up relatively late, but there is still some time for a little hike around. The yesterday’s fight has worked out, my boyfriend is determined to make me a company, even though he doesn’t even have proper shoes and he wants to go hiking in his slippers! Our hotel also offers some tours around the island, but they are all quite pricy. Fortunately, one hotel employee gives us an advice to take a path that should lead us through a forest to a hidden lagoon. We walk out of the hotel in advised direction, but we can not find a hiking trail. The shop assistants in the small shops we passing by have no idea what we are looking for. We stop for breakfast in small supermarket, where I find real Czech yoghurts! Czech yoghurts in Seychelles, would you believe that?! We buy yogurts, sit on a sidewalk and enjoy a beautiful sunny day. Then we just walk around and enjoy the view. We give up to find hiking trail, anyway my boyfriend doesn’t have shoes, I need some repellent. Finally we do not know how, we come out on a beach that we already know. But tonight there is some local event happening. At every corner we hear some reggae music playing, locals are selling some traditional food. We go from the stand to the stand and taste everything that looks or smells good. Very nice evening with good food and drinks and just under the stars…

DAY 4

Finally I let my boyfriend to enjoy our bed, we get up quite late, then we have to get ready. In a while we already sit in a taxi on the way to the airport. I know I say it after every vacation, but this one really seems to be the best… 🙂
